Kris on James: We stopped loving each other a long time ago

TV host-actress Kris Aquino on Sunday said she and former husband, cager James Yap, had stopped loving each other “a long time ago."

In an interview with ABS-CBN’s entertainment program The Buzz, the youngest sister of President Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III even mentioned the exact date—April 26— when she decided that she would end their five-year marriage.

Without elaborating, she told host Boy Abunda that it was something James said to their son that convinced her to end their relationship.

“I acknowledged in my heart naubos talaga yung love, April 26 of this year. May nasabi siya sa anak ko, which I will forever keep between the two of us. May nasabi siya, sa galit namin sa isa't isa siguro, noong panahon na yon na nasaktan talaga ako," she said.

Kris said the incident showed her that "this is not the man for me, this is not the man I want to stay with because dinadamay na niya ang three years old na bata na dapat protektahan naming dalawa."

She said she did not end the marriage then as it would affect the campaign for president of her brother.

During the interview, Kris urged James not to drag her mother, former President Corazon Aquino, who died of colon cancer exactly a year ago, into the issue. She was reacting to James’ statement that he would fight for their marriage because it was his promise to his mother-in-law.

Kris said she had been faithful to James, who has been linked to several women in the past, throughout their marriage.

“I can honestly say na in the five years na nagsama kami, hindi ako nagloko (I can honestly say that in the five years that we were together, I never cheated). I don't think he can say the same," she said.

She said they had never been able to resolve James’ alleged affairs with other women. She said they just pretended that things were normal to save themselves from embarrassment.

“Before, I used to question, bakit kinailangan mong mambabae (why did you have to have another woman)? Ngayon, nare-realize ko na minsan, gusto mong maramdaman na ikaw ang hari (Now I realize that at times, he wants to feel that he’s the king)," Kris said.

Kris said she first sought the advice of her sisters before agreeing to the interview.
She however said that although her siblings, including President Aquino, have always understood her, they were apprehensive of how her image as an actress and a product endorser would be affected by her marital problems.

“Kung hindi magustuhan ng mga tao ang desisyon ko at hindi na ako panoorin, hindi na tangkilikin yung mga produktong ineendorso ko (If people wouldn’t like my decision and stop watching my shows or buying the products I endorse), what happens to us?" she said. - KBK, GMANews.TV

The Final Score: The James-Kris experience leaves everyone breathless

The phenomenon grabbed us by the arms and coerced us to watch. Moments into Game 6 of the Semi-Finals between B-Meg Derby Ace and San Miguel last Sunday, James Yap was ready to give it all in the PBA while Kris Aquino was ready to tell it all in The Buzz.

To oversimplify, the men of this country were watching James. The women were tuned to Kris. It’s an inaccurate, gender-insensitive hypothesis, I know. Nevertheless, it’s hard to completely disagree. The famous husband and wife, even when reportedly estranged, can bring television audiences together, someway, somehow.

So past six in the evening, James and Kris had their game-faces on. The way James stared at Dondon Hontiveros, San Miguel’s assigned defensive-stopper against Yap, on the hard-court was the same way Kris stared at Boy Abunda during a taped sit-down interview. Face to face. Eyeball to eyeball. Mr. and Mrs. Yap were both out to win. James wanted to win to force a Game 7 on Wednesday. Kris wanted to win sympathy and other gains only entertainment public relations masterminds can understand.

James must’ve known that during the first half of his do-or-die game, Kris was going on-air too. Mr. and Mrs. Yap appeared on primetime simultaneously, albeit on separate networks, to display their A-Game. I don’t side with anyone. Whatever marital schism James and Kris have is solely their own. Although James tends to keep it to himself, Kris believes it’s healthier to let it out.

It was loud in the Araneta Coliseum. But for one frazzled soul, loud can be comforting. The court looked like Yap’s refuge, even with over 10,000 onlookers. Would it be too radical to say that James has more peace of mind in a deafening coliseum than in an empty parking lot? The frenzy of a basketball game provides the pressure that makes him. On other hand, the pressure from showbiz reporters, all wanting him to speak up and offer more than just polite replies, is out to break him.

Clearly, the James-Kris marriage, or the disintegration of it, is a spectacle. Not a spectacle in the sarcastic sense. More like spectacle in a scholarly view. Two strong individuals thrive in the blinding spotlight of adulation. Two larger-than-life citizens deal with intense public scrutiny the way most of us worry about paying bills on time. It’s part of life. Only their life is like Facebook made for television. Every “status" is public domain. Every “photo" is displayed for the world to see.

This is less like David Beckham-Posh Spice and more like Joe DiMaggio-Marilyn Monroe. It’s a fractious team-up between sports icon and entertainment superstar that leads, unfortunately, to more murmurs than cheers. In high-profile cases, the backroom whispers, rather than public outcry, often lead to sensational endings. Even while an apparent divorce goes on-air, two monolith personalities leave us breathless. When James has the ball or when Kris has the microphone, we all stop and watch, as witnesses either by choice or simply by force. -- GMANews.TV

3 FHM models, 2 others hurt in road accident

At least three models of the men's magazine, FHM, and two others were injured after figuring in a road accident in Bacolod City last weekend.

The victims' vehicle collided with a dump truck at Lacson Street in Bacolod City 5:00 a.m. Saturday, news site Visayan Daily Star reported Monday.

Traffic investigator Police Officer 2 Eliseo Adraneda identified the injured models as Karine Borador, 25, of Makati City; Pauline So, 26; and Jeramae Padolina, 24, both of Manila.

Adraneda said the models were rushed to the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, where they are now recuperating. One of them sustained head injuries.

The others who were injured were Michael Abergas, 25; and Ramonito Esmalde, 19.

Investigation showed that the victims' Mitsubishi Pajero (with plate number FFT-786) driven by Airon Rex Gicos, 24, was heading north of Lacson Street when they suddenly hit the rear portion of the dump truck of the Department of Public Works and Highways (with plate number SCR-982).

The impact caused the truck to go forward and sideswipe Esmalde, who was putting traffic cones along the road.

Adraneda said the models were on their way to the Bacolod-Silay Airport to catch the first flight to Manila after attending some activities in Bacolod and Iloilo City. –VVP, GMANews.TV
