Modifications Regarding Camshafts.

I just read someone posted that using racing camshaft depends on your compression ratio? Anyone can enlighten us more about camshaft modifications?

In my opinion, maybe this is true in some way.

For example, if your engine or piston is stock, its better to use stage 1 cams or low cams. Because if you use stage 2 cams or high lift cams, the tendency is your going to pocket your piston thus reducing your compression ratio. Just an idea but i just don't know if this is true or not.

any reaction regarding to my idea sir?

the higher the cam the lower the compression...thats the reason why big bore need hi lift cam and big valves...big valves also reduce compression so it is not aplicable to stock bore...but stock bore + stage 2 cams is good..nothing to worry about compression, its just a cam as long as youre using stock head....IMO

thanks for the input sir. For 59mm bore, is it just ok to use stage 1 cams? i bought UMA high cam but didn't installed it yet.

Still wondering if its better to use stage 1 cam than stage 2 cams like uma high cam to my 59mm bore. I did found LHK stage 1 cam for 600 pesos only. Makes me wanna buy it if its better to use it than UMA high cam.

if you wanna go big valves on stock bore, you better add more stroke, without forgetting to rebalance, in order to compensate with the lost compression due to the big valves. i personally think it is best to maximize the size of the valves per head of a motorcycle along with compression adjustments. there are lots of ways to change the compression ratio and with the durability bestowed in our yamaha 135 engine i think 12:1 cr is still tolerable for daily use.

I disagree sir, using stage 2 cam is better compared to stage 1 cam but theres a need to pocket your piston when using stage 2 cam. Tried both stage 1 faito s4evo & stage 2 CMS cam on stock bore, CMS cam is better.
