How to: SQUISHBAND your engine

Hi guys

hawkeye did it to his bike, shaving off the block.
haen did it to his bike, removing the bottom gasket.
so i decided to do it also on my bike, Shaving off 1mm
the the Upper portion of the block!

Anyway, Our Yamaha Sniper have stock 10.9 compression ratio.
the Yamaha R125 have 11.2 compression ratio

so why is it that the compression ratio of R125 is higher
than our bike?

and by the way, R125 have more power than our T135
despite that our T135 have more cc's than R125.
maybe because of the Much Higher Compression Ratio.

So its time to do the squishband thing

Possible problems with high compression ratio based from internet readings are the ff.
-Prone to detonation and pings
-Prone to valve and piston collision
-Hard starting due to high compression

well i have tested the above and will give you the results...

Prone to Detonation and Pings
-this can occur if the gasoline is low octane. but in our case
the lowest octane available in Gasoline Station now is 93octane
the highest available is 96octane

I have tried 93 octane gasoline and didnt get any problems with it.
so that means the high compression engine can survive with 93 octane. How much more if we use 95 or 96 octane gasoline.
so high compression than 10.9 is ok with our engine.

Prone to Valve and Piston Collision
-after around 5000km of travel, both long distance ride
and short rides. so far havent found any problem with it.
i have checked the piston and it looks good!
no scratches whatsoever. I have ride it to the fullest!
and got no problems.

Hard starting due to high compression
-well yes i experienced it but the starter can still able to
start the engine with no problem.. I can start the engine
just like the normal 1 click start.


NOTE:
dont blame me if something goes wrong to your bike.
i did it to my bike for experiment purposes and im happy
with the results. my bike is alive and kickin compared with
stock bikes.

The cylinder head and cylinder block is removed

This is what the piston looks before the squishband
Lots of CARBON!!!

Heres the space between the Top surface of the piston
and the top surface of the block. theres around 1.7mm of space.
We will shaveoff 1mm on the UPPER portion of the block.

The cylinder block is then brought to machine shop. the block is installed on the lathe machine.
ITS VERY IMPORTANT that the machinist will align the block properly to the machine so that the shaving off is perfectly flat
and aligned. So go to your trusted machine shop only.

we will shaveoff 1mm on the UPPER PORTION of the cylinder block.

Partially shaveoff cylinder block.

Finished shaving off 1mm to the block.
removed any debris in the block. be careful when handling the block. make you you will not scratch the inside of the block.

Its time to put it back to the engine

This is now the final result when Piston is installed.
piston is on TDC (Top Dead Center)
notice that the space between top surface of piston to the top of the cylinder block is so small already!!

clean the piston using gasoline or carb cleaner.
its effective in removing carbon deposits

Put everything back.
On my setup, The TOP GASKET and BOTTOM GASKET is installed.

voila! test it and always observe for any leaks.
make sure you have torque wrench so that there is equal tightening of the stud bolts to prevent leaks.

again DONT BLAME ME if something goes wrong to your engine.
This mod is just to show that shaving off 1mm to your cylinder block is possible and so far after 5000km
of usage, no problem occurs.

my observations are the ff

- provides more torque,
- more acceleration
- Engine brake is higher
- much efficient and saves fuel
- 4th gear is ALIVE and KICKIN unlike before
- Can attain top speed faster

having a high compression engine /squish band will make your bike MORE EFFICIENT. that is why diesel engines are very efficient engines (trucks buses uses diesel) because diesel engines are High Compression engine.

OT: how do we clean the carbon deposits in our piston?

Hi traxx.. can u confirm my eyes.. is tat a vixion block u use.. if so.. then 1 mm is fine since the piston surface profile is a bit convex, in effect the compression ratio is still within safe standards.. stock T135 (flat profile) please dont go too high when shaving.. 0,5 mm is sufficient.. and after reassembling block and head.. do valve and piston movement check.. by rotating the rotor counter clock wise 4 times.. if it goes smoothly.. then everything should be fine..

its stock 135cc block
the reason i go 1mm shaveoff is because for test purposes.
well its works well on 2000km straight long ride we had.

that 2000km ride is my real hard abuse test ride to really see
if 1mm shaveoff is safe or not.


total kilometers since i did the squishband is 5000km
this is the ride we had

so i can say the 1mm shaveoff on stock 135cc block is safe
as per experience. hehehe

oh i strongly suggest for the shave wannabes like me.. lol.. it's advised to look for a qualified and nicely equipped workshop if we want to shave the upper part of the block.. slight misshave could cause leak even in micro measures.. it'd better if we shave the lower part of the block.. 0.8 mm shave based on rough calculation comp ratio is 12,6 : 1.. could be lower for vixion piston due to piston profile.. and watch out if u use vixion camshaft on stock T135 block.. vixion cam has a slight higher valve lift..

you can remove the bottom gasket first as haen suggested.
if still not satisfied, then go with the block shaving start shaving by 0.5mm only. just in case...

good tip bro.. yahh you must find a good qualified machine shop.
good thing for me, they have they alignment gauge that measures
if its perfectly aligned to the machine.

shaving at bottom is much better and safer.
