Oh My Hid!

Hello Masters,

This just happened last night when I got ready for work. I warmed up my MC fr 3 minutes before I turned my headlight ON when suddenly a buzzing-like sound caught my attention and I just found out my HID is already busted. I shut off my engine and started it again to check if it was some glitch , but the same thing was happened " buzzing sound which only lasted below 1 second, then again, OFF". The same thing will happen over and over again when I shut off my engine and start it back ON. I checked the bulb and it seems it has some brown ashes accumulated in one certain portion of the bulb. Please help.

Should I worry master? Yes, I suspects it was a ballast. Was it already busted?

probably busted...but i suggest you made some test...try to borrow set of hid in your friend(someone who have).then try your ballast first and your light bulb then...in then you can see which is defective...

your bulb is defective, i have already experienced that. when you turn on the hid, you will see some electricity that's arcing from the bulb to the metal on the headlight assembly.

It is just your ballast, many HID issues like that, try using other ballast, It will work for sure, or sometimes grounded wires of your ballast cause by moist. try to blow the wire terminals with a hair dryer. if not try to open the ballast then blow it with a dryer.

The buzzing sound happens when the socket on the bulb to the ballast have loose contacts, try to unplug the socket and plug it in... if the buzzing sound still present try to change your bulb.. your bulb must be defective due to it's hi/low function, that causes the bulb to loose contacts overtime..

Sir Hi/Lo function is another issue, its not buzzing sounds but its "Tik" sounds.. the buzz noise only came from the ballast.

buzzing sound is sign of loose contacts, either bulb itself or socket from bulb to ballast.. if the ballast is defective you hear no sound at all.. the tik sound is coming from the built in relay of hid kit, that triggers when you turn on the hid(if its single beam) or triggers the hi/low if it has a hi/low function..

if your hid is ok, try to unplug the socket from bulb to ballast, and turn it on, you'll hear that same buzzing sound right? thats the same if it has loose contacts on the socket or in the bulb.. that buzzing sound is the 2300v of current travelling..

this experience is the same as mine...i replace my bulb and the buzzing sound disappear...

Nice input guys,, @ts , try these some troubleshooting test mentioned here, and do some extra careful in handling these test.

You guys were very good, it was indeed a loose contact. I checked it yesterday, and the blue wire was totally broken ( the one with the red wire from the base of the bulb). Thank you so much T135 and Masters!

In addition,

Hid bulb dont get easily busted, but the hid ballast...

Also in the long run joints in the wire connections corrodes and produce a powder light thing... Always check this
