Hi All,
Need some help, been reading some of the threads but some posts are non-English so i might missed some info.
Here's the situation (a long one, sorry):
I just installed an electronic tach/rpm meter with voltmeter on my LC135 (1st model).
Brand is TDH, you can google up the pic, box-shaped with blue screen.
the strange thing about this meter is that the pulse wire does not work with the orange wire on the CDI / the one that goes to the plug coil. i have to wrap it around the plug cable for it to have RPM reading .
After I installed the tach, i tested ramming the engine (without headlight) and everything felt OK, but I noticed the voltmeter is showing up to 16V when I was ramming the engine. i did not ride the bike, already late afternoon, so i parked the bike.
The next morning, i tried starting the bike with electric starter, then it sounded like there was a short circuit, the meter panel got bright for a while and the bike did not start.
The N green light is still working, i tried to start the bike with electric starter again but it failed. I noticed on the voltmeter, it's showing only around 9V.
I kick started the bike and ride it. then something strange happened: when i open the throttle more than 20%, the bike starts to jerk, almost stalling.
i did some troubleshooting:
- i checked the wiring, making sure no leak or loose wire.
- if i have the headlight connected, and the tach/volt meter connected, i will have the jerking problem.
- when i remove the headlight, with the tach/volt meter connected, the engine went fine, i ride the bike smoothly with wide open throttle, no problem. volt showing up to 16V.
- if i have the tach/volt meter removed, with the headlight connected, almost smooth, only got jerking on 1st gear with wide open throttle.
- in any case, i can no longer use the electric starter. with the voltmeter connected, only got around 9V on the wiring, looks like the battery is not charging, even with 16V on the voltmeter.
- i also tried kick-starting the bike, and then removed the battery fuse. the engine still runs, but the moment i open the throttle, the engine jerks again.
mod: Thailand's CDI and open exhaust, everything else stock (except the tach/voltmeter)
tach/voltmeter wiring:
+ve connected to the red wire below the key-lock
-ve connected to the ground of the ignition coil
pulse (with rubber sleeve) wrapped around the plug cable.
based on other threads, it looks like i may have a problem with rectifier or stator.
any idea on how i can check, confirm and fix?
Any advice or feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.
